A Tarleton State University rodeo athlete died from injuries sustained during a Thursday night performance at Sul Ross State University’s S.A.L.E. Arena, according to Sul Ross State Rodeo.
The athlete was identified as Alejandra Franco.
Sul Ross State Rodeo announced Franco’s death Friday, saying she had suffered injuries during the performance Thursday night. The organization did not immediately provide additional details about the incident or the nature of her injuries.
“Our hearts are with her family, team and community at this difficult time,” Sul Ross State Rodeo said in its announcement.
The rodeo events scheduled for the remainder of the weekend will continue as planned in Franco’s honor, according to the organization.
Counselors will be available at the events to provide support to athletes.
