A lightning strike sparked a small wildfire on Davis Mountains State Park property Sunday, burning about an acre before firefighters extinguished it Monday.
The Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Department was toned out Sunday night for a fire along Texas 118 North but was unable to reach the site until daylight Monday.
Firefighters located a dead tree that had been struck by lightning and determined it was the source of the fire. Crews extinguished remaining hot spots, cut burned material and conducted mop-up operations to ensure the fire was out.
The fire was estimated at about 1 acre, according to information provided by the department.
Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Department Chief Roy Hurley and other firefighters responded to the scene Monday morning.
