Presidio County sheriff’s deputies recovered two late-model Honda CR-Vs reported stolen from Montgomery County as part of an ongoing investigation into stolen vehicles being transported toward Mexico, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The vehicles — a 2024 Honda CR-V and a 2025 Honda CR-V — were being transported together by a transmigrante carrier and were discovered with fictitious titles and other documents, according to Chief Deputy Joel Nuñez Jr.
Both vehicles were destined for import into Mexico, authorities said.
The recovery is part of a continuing investigation by the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office into stolen vehicles moving through the county with transmigrante traffic. Previous investigations involving such carriers have also resulted in the recovery of stolen vehicles.
The Sheriff’s Office said U.S. 67 has experienced increased transmigrante traffic, while deputies have also encountered an increase in stolen vehicles being transported through Presidio County toward the international border.
The driver, identified by authorities as Enrique Valle, 50, of Guatemala, could face a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. No charge had been announced in the Sheriff’s Office statement, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities said people involved in the investigation have been cooperative and are assisting investigators.
Presidio County deputies are coordinating with other law enforcement agencies in Texas and across state lines as they investigate the vehicles and their movement toward the border.
The Sheriff’s Office said it continues to monitor transmigrante operations and work with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies on vehicle theft investigations.
