A tractor-trailer carrying approximately 40,000 pounds of Tecate beer caught fire in Sanderson, sending thick black smoke into the air and leaving cases of beer burning along a roadway.
Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland said Oak Street between First and Wilson streets was closed because of the semi fire.
Photos shared by the sheriff showed flames engulfing portions of the truck and its cargo, with cases and cans of Tecate scattered near the burning trailer.
The Sanderson Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze with assistance from the Terrell County Sheriff’s Office, Terrell County EMS, Terrell County Water Control and Improvement District, off-duty Union Pacific Railroad personnel, off-duty Terrell County Road and Bridge employees, U.S. Border Patrol personnel from the Sanderson station, Texas-New Mexico Power, the Texas Division of Emergency Management, the Texas Department of Public Safety and local residents.
Cleveland also thanked Robin Walker for donating Gatorade to those working at the scene.
No injuries were reported in the sheriff’s post, and the cause of the fire was not immediately disclosed.
