The Jeff Davis County Commissioners Court will consider a road-use agreement with Barnard Construction Co. during its regular meeting Tuesday, a matter drawing attention from residents concerned about border barrier construction in the Big Bend region.
The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the Jeff Davis County courtroom at 100 Court Ave. in Fort Davis.
The agenda calls for commissioners to “discuss and take desired action” on the agreement involving Chispa Road. The posted agenda does not include the proposed agreement or specify its terms.
Opponents of border wall construction are urging residents to attend, citing concerns about the potential effects of construction activity and heavy equipment on county roads, surrounding land and the wider Big Bend region.
Anyone wishing to address commissioners must attend in person because the county is not offering a remote participation option. Speakers must complete a public participation form and submit it before the meeting to jdcjclerk@co.jeff-davis.tx.us.
Commissioners are also scheduled to hold a public hearing on the county’s proposed property tax rate, consider the proposed 2026-27 budget and conduct a budget workshop.
The county posted notice of the meeting Sept. 2, according to an affidavit signed by County Judge Curtis Evans.
