A railroad bridge over West Highway 90 in Alpine was struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon, causing significant damage and forcing authorities to close the roadway, according to the Alpine Police Department.
Police said the bridge was struck at approximately 2:45 p.m. Sept. 8. A photo from the scene shows a tractor-trailer stopped near the bridge and debris scattered across the roadway.
“The railroad bridge on West Hwy 90 was struck again,” the department said in a social media post.
Crews were working Tuesday afternoon to remove debris from the roadway. Police said West Highway 90 would remain closed for an undetermined amount of time and advised motorists to find alternate routes.
The department did not immediately provide information about injuries or say how long repairs and cleanup were expected to take.
The incident marks another collision involving the railroad bridge, with police emphasizing in their announcement that it had been “struck again.”
