The Magoffin Home State Historic Site will host a free lecture Aug. 20 examining the life and legacy of Father Carlos M. Pinto, who helped establish 14 churches and seven schools across the Borderlands.
Local historian Janine Young will present “Padre Pinto: The Apostle of El Paso” as part of a lecture series commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.
The program will explore Pinto’s role in shaping the religious and educational foundations of El Paso, southern New Mexico and northern Mexico. Historical photographs, articles and archival materials will accompany the presentation.
Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the lecture will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Magoffin Home Visitor Center, 1117 Magoffin Ave. Admission is free and open to the public.
Light refreshments and beverages will be available as a fundraiser benefiting Casa Magoffin Compañeros.
