Alpine Independent School District reported record participation in its Summer Meal Program this year, with the district providing more than $4,200 worth of free meals to children in the community.
The district said participation reached its highest level in more than seven years and was nearly double the number recorded last summer.
The program provides nutritious meals to children at no charge while school is out for the summer.
Alpine ISD credited Nutrition Department employees Amanda Lujan, Morgan Tucker and Jean Sierra with helping make the program successful through their work preparing and serving the meals.
“Their dedication ensured more children had access to healthy meals this summer,” the district said in a social media post.
Alpine ISD also thanked the families who participated and said it plans to offer the program again next summer.
