A new community book-sharing box has opened at Gene Cummings Park, giving Fort Stockton residents and visitors free access to books.
The Little Free Library, named “Once Upon a Park,” is located near the park’s Everts Street entrance. Visitors may take a book, leave a book or exchange one for another.
The project was led by Fort Stockton resident Annika Vasquez, who was selected to receive a Little Free Library Impact Library Program grant. The national program places book-sharing boxes in communities to expand access to reading materials and encourage literacy.
The City of Fort Stockton, City Manager Frank Rodriguez and the Fort Stockton Convention and Visitors Bureau also supported the project.
Organizers said the library is intended for readers of all ages and belongs to the entire community. Residents are encouraged to donate books and help keep the box stocked.
The library is available to anyone visiting the park, with no registration or fee required.
