Jeff Davis County residents are being asked to document missed or unanswered 911 calls as officials work to address persistent problems with the emergency dispatch system serving the county.
Jeff Davis County relies on the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office for dispatch services. According to Hudspeth County Dispatch Supervisor Brandi Salgado, the system has experienced repeated failures over the past several months, including instances in which 911 calls did not ring through to dispatchers.
“There have been many times where the 911 system does not ring and your calls are being missed,” Salgado wrote in a letter addressed to Jeff Davis County residents and shared by the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office.
Salgado said she has contacted the service provider numerous times and is now collecting statements from Jeff Davis County residents who have experienced problems reaching 911. Residents are asked to include the dates of any missed calls so the information can be presented to the provider.
Salgado emphasized that dispatchers are not intentionally ignoring emergency calls and apologized for the problems.
“I cannot continue to miss these important calls,” she wrote, adding that she plans to continue disputing the service failures until they are resolved.
Jeff Davis County residents who cannot reach 911 during an emergency may call 915-369-2161.

The Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office said it will share additional updates with residents as more information becomes available.
