Marfa Police Chief Steve Carrillo reviewed department services and grant-funded operations during his June 9 report to City Council.
Carrillo told council the department provides services including home security checks, graduation event support, EMS assistance, vehicle unlocks, funeral escorts, school escorts and courtesy rides home.
He also discussed animal control and shelter operations, as well as the department’s use of Stonegarden and Operation Lone Star grant funding for overtime, equipment purchases and patrol vehicles.
Carrillo said the grants help reduce city costs while supporting public safety. He also said overtime often comes from active calls and domestic calls that require two officers.
