Marfa approves engineering contract for street improvements

Marfa City Council approved an engineering services contract with Jacob & Martin for the second phase of the Marfa Streets Improvements Project.

Andy Vecellio, representing Jacob & Martin, said the contract will include preliminary engineering, design, bidding assistance, construction project representation, surveying, inspection and material testing.

Vecellio said additional core sampling will not be required because the condition of the existing street foundation is already known from previous work. He said many areas will require full reconstruction.

Mayor Manny Baeza praised the firm’s communication and performance during the first phase of the project. The engineer estimated the project could go out for bid in late 2026, with construction beginning in early 2027.

Council Member Travis Acreman made the motion to approve the contract. Mayor Pro Tem Mark Cash seconded the motion, which passed 5-0.
