Marfa City Council approved a $62,450 change order for additional electrical work intended to allow Well No. 3 and Well No. 3A to both remain available for production, though not at the same time.
Keith Rutherford of Parkhill Smith Cooper told council the change order would install a transfer switch and dedicated soft-start system for the new well. He said electrical equipment procurement is expected to take six to eight weeks, with total completion estimated at about 16 weeks.
Rutherford said the new well has tested at 800 to 900 gallons per minute, while Well No. 3 historically produced about 1,300 gallons per minute before being reduced to about 600 gallons per minute to preserve its life.
Mayor Manny Baeza said the project would be funded through city tax note funds previously allocated for the work.
Council Member Travis Acreman made the motion to approve the change order. Mayor Pro Tem Mark Cash seconded the motion, which passed 5-0.
