Pecos County inmates assist with post–Fourth of July cleanup
FORT STOCKTON, Texas — Inmates and staff from the Pecos County Sheriff’s Office helped clean up after the community’s Independence Day celebration early Saturday morning, according to Sheriff T.J. Perkins.
In a social media post, Perkins said inmates and sheriff’s office personnel assisted with removing trash and restoring event areas following the July 4 festivities.
“We appreciate everyone who came out to enjoy the festivities,” Perkins wrote. “We thank the staff and inmates who helped clean up and keep our community looking its best.”
The cleanup effort followed a busy holiday celebration that drew residents and visitors together to mark Independence Day. Community cleanup programs involving inmate work crews are commonly used by counties across Texas for public service projects, litter removal and maintenance activities.
Perkins also thanked Pecos County residents for participating in the celebration and expressed hopes that everyone enjoyed a safe holiday.
“Thank you, Pecos County, and we hope everyone had a safe and happy Independence Day,” he said.
