Landowner Denied Access, Survey Crew Entered Property Anyway, Border Wall Opponents Say

A social media account associated with opposition to border wall construction reported new surveying activity Tuesday near the Rio Grande, alleging contractors entered private land after a landowner denied permission.

The Instagram account TX River Patrol, which documents border wall activity and frequently opposes expanded wall construction in the Big Bend region, posted photos showing what appeared to be survey equipment and workers along a brush-lined path near the border. The post identified the company as EMC Surveying and Mapping and alleged the workers were “trespassing where landowner denied access.”

According to the account, the activity involved a truck identified as No. 2307 and occurred in an area where communities and landowners have raised concerns about the environmental, property rights and economic impacts of additional border wall construction.

The account urged followers to contact the company regarding the alleged trespassing. The allegations could not immediately be independently verified, and it was not immediately clear whether survey crews had obtained easements, permissions or legal authority to access the property.

Border wall surveying and land access disputes have become a recurring flashpoint in Far West Texas, where many ranchers, conservationists, tourism interests and residents have opposed new construction, particularly in ecologically sensitive areas near the Rio Grande.

The TX River Patrol Instagram account reported the activity Tuesday, sharing images it said documented the surveying work.
