The Borderlands Research Institute is inviting landowners, conservationists, researchers and wildlife enthusiasts to Alpine this summer for the 2026 Tran-Pecos Wildlife Conference, a three-day event focused on habitat restoration, conservation priorities and wildlife management across West Texas.
The conference is scheduled for Aug. 5–7 in Alpine and will feature discussions on strengthening partnerships, sustaining working lands and supporting native wildlife populations throughout the Trans-Pecos region.
According to the Borderlands Research Institute, the event will highlight emerging conservation priorities and research involving species native to the region, including birds, black bears, desert bighorn sheep and other wildlife.
Organizers say the conference will also explore habitat restoration strategies and innovative approaches to wildlife research aimed at balancing conservation with the needs of ranching and working lands.
The Borderlands Research Institute, based at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, works with private landowners, agencies and conservation partners on wildlife and natural resource issues throughout the borderlands region.
Registration and additional information about the conference are available through the event page shared by the institute.
