The Jeff Davis County Ambulance service is recruiting new volunteers and encouraging residents interested in emergency medical care to sign up for an upcoming Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course.
In a recent social media post, the department announced a new EMT class set to begin July 11. According to the post, the course will run for 16 weeks and meet every Saturday.
“Come join us!! We need more people just like YOU,” the department wrote in promoting the program.
The ambulance service, based in Fort Davis, provides emergency medical response for Jeff Davis County, a rural area where emergency services often depend heavily on local volunteers and trained community members.
Officials said the EMT training is intended for people interested in serving their community through emergency response work. Rural EMS agencies across Texas have faced ongoing staffing shortages in recent years, making volunteer recruitment and local workforce development increasingly important.
