Free community health clinic planned in Marathon offering screenings, sports physicals

A free community health clinic offering sports physicals, health screenings and other medical services is scheduled for later this month in Marathon, organizers announced.

The clinic will be held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at the Marathon Health Center, located at 100 SW First St. in Marathon.

According to organizers, the event will provide no-cost medical care from licensed physicians, medical students and healthcare professionals. No insurance will be required, and services will be available to all community members.

Services are expected to include University Interscholastic League, or UIL, sports physicals for student athletes, physical therapy evaluations and treatment, osteopathic manipulative treatment, general health screenings such as blood pressure and blood glucose checks, health education and referrals to community services.

The clinic is being organized through a collaboration involving the University of North Texas Health Science Center Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Rural Medical Education program, with support from Wellpoint.

Organizers said the event is intended to expand access to healthcare resources in rural communities and connect residents with local support services.
