U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Alpine Station, with assistance from the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety Air Division, apprehended five people alleged to be in the country unlawfully, according to federal authorities.
The U.S. Border Patrol Big Bend Sector announced the apprehensions Tuesday in a social media post, saying the operation involved local and state law enforcement support.
“Strong partnerships help secure our border and protect our communities,” the agency said in the statement.
Border Patrol did not immediately release additional details, including where the apprehension occurred, the nationality of the individuals, whether any smuggling activity was suspected, or whether criminal charges are pending.
The Big Bend Sector, which covers a vast and remote stretch of West Texas along the U.S.-Mexico border, frequently coordinates with county and state agencies for air support and enforcement operations in rugged terrain.
Federal immigration law distinguishes between civil immigration violations and criminal offenses, though unauthorized entry or reentry under certain circumstances can carry criminal penalties.
