Red named Pet of the Week at Alpine Animal Services, adoption fee reduced through Sunday

Red, a shy but increasingly confident puppy at Alpine Animal Services, has been named Pet of the Week and is available for adoption at a reduced fee through the end of the day Sunday, June 7.

Red can be adopted for $50, half the shelter’s normal adoption fee. The fee includes spaying, a heartworm test, a microchip and all vaccinations.

Red arrived at the shelter April 27 alongside four siblings after the litter was surrendered as unwanted.

Shelter staff say Red has made significant progress in socializing during her time at the shelter. Though initially timid, she has grown more curious and increasingly approaches visitors to investigate.

“Red is a bit shy but is gaining more and more confidence as time goes by at the shelter,” staff said in a statement, crediting employees and volunteers with helping her improve her social skills.

Red will need basic training, including leash and potty training, and shelter staff say she would do best in a patient, understanding home where she can continue building confidence.

Recently, Red spent time in the shelter’s play yard with her sister, an experience staff say helped reveal a more outgoing side of her personality.

“This girl is eager and ready to try a new routine and some normalcy,” staff said. “She seems to do well with consistency and seems to want to learn.”

Shelter workers say they believe Red’s gentle temperament will shine in the right environment and hope a potential adopter will recognize her potential.

Those interested in meeting Red can visit Alpine Animal Services Shelter at 2900 Old Marathon Highway in Alpine.
