The first-ever Terlingua Pie Off brought residents and visitors together for an afternoon of homemade desserts, live music and community celebration at Milky Way Treats, organizers said.
Held as part of the Terlingua Ice Cream Social, the event featured six pies competing for top honors, with attendees later invited to sample leftovers after judges announced winners.
Karen Allen McInerney earned first place for savory meat pies and also took home honors for best crust. LaNetta Barnes placed second with a lime pie.
Milky Way Treats owner Val Stanley described the event as a celebration of community and marked the third anniversary of the Terlingua ice cream trailer.
“This year marks three years,” Stanley wrote in a social media post following the event. “I just had this idea to open an ice cream business in the desert because this town deserves it.”
Stanley thanked the community for supporting the business and highlighted neighboring establishments, including The Boathouse and Dead Hungry, as part of the area’s weekend atmosphere.
The gathering also featured live music from Moses Martinez, who entertained the crowd and performed a song about Milky Way Treats.
Organizers said the pie contest and ice cream social are expected to become an annual tradition, held each year on the anniversary of Milky Way Treats opening in Terlingua.
