According to reporting by the Big Bend Sentinel, Alpine City Secretary Geoffrey “Geo” Raul Calderon was arrested early Sunday morning on multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence and possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional or civil facility, according to records from the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office.
Calderon, 36, has served as Alpine’s city secretary since 2021 and previously worked as interim city manager before the recent appointment of Henry Arredondo. He has worked for the city since 2018 and, in his role as city secretary, has coordinated City Council meetings and overseen city administrative functions and projects.
According to sheriff’s records cited by the Sentinel, deputies arrested Calderon at approximately 5:17 a.m. Sunday. Jail records reviewed Sunday reportedly did not yet list a location for the arrest, bond information or release details.
The possession charge was listed as a Penalty Group 1-B controlled substance in an amount between one and four grams. Under Texas law, Penalty Group 1-B refers to fentanyl and related substances.
Calderon also faces charges of resisting arrest, tampering with evidence and possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional or civil facility.
City Manager Henry Arredondo confirmed the arrest to the Big Bend Sentinel and said he intended to speak with the city’s Human Resources Department regarding the matter. Arredondo reportedly said he knew little about the allegations other than that Calderon had been released from jail.
Mayor Catherine Eaves could not immediately be reached for comment, according to the Sentinel.
Calderon, an Alpine native and graduate of Alpine High School, did not immediately respond to a request for comment, the Sentinel reported.
