Border Patrol, Terrell County deputy apprehend six migrants near Sanderson

Six migrants from the Mexican state of Guerrero, including two juveniles and two women who claimed to be pregnant, were apprehended near Sanderson by U.S. Border Patrol agents and a deputy with the Terrell County Sheriff’s Office working under Texas’ border security initiative, according to Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland.

In a social media post Saturday, Cleveland said agents from the Sanderson Border Patrol Station and a deputy assigned to #OperationLoneStar apprehended the group in a remote desert area of Terrell County.

The group included one male juvenile and one female juvenile, Cleveland said. Two adult women in the group reportedly told authorities they were pregnant.

According to the sheriff, the individuals told authorities they were traveling to Santa Maria, California.

No additional details about when the group crossed the border, whether human smuggling charges are expected, or the current immigration status of the individuals were immediately available.

The apprehension comes as federal and state law enforcement agencies continue joint border enforcement efforts in far West Texas through Operation Lone Star, Texas’ state-led border security initiative.
