Marfa Independent School District is seeking applications from community members interested in filling a vacancy on the district’s Board of Trustees, according to an announcement shared by the district.
The district is encouraging qualified residents to apply for the open school board seat, describing it as an opportunity to help shape the future of local students and the district.
To qualify for appointment to the board, applicants must meet several requirements under Texas law, including being a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old by the start of the term, a qualified voter and a resident of both Texas and the Marfa ISD district for the required period — including at least six months in the district.
Applicants also must not have been determined by a court to be mentally incapacitated in a way that restricts voting rights and must not have a felony conviction that has not been pardoned or otherwise resolved under state law.
Letters of interest must be hand-delivered to the superintendent’s office, addressed to the Marfa ISD Board of Trustees, at 400 W. Lincoln St. in Marfa.
The deadline to apply is June 11, according to the district’s announcement.
