The Presidio County Sheriff’s Office and the Presidio County Veteran’s Service Officer are inviting veterans from across Presidio County to a Memorial Day event offering information on assistance programs and a community barbecue meal.
The event is scheduled for Monday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the American Legion in Presidio.
According to promotional materials, the event will connect veterans with resources available through the county’s Veteran’s Service Officer, including help with mortgage payments, rent, utility bills, home accessibility improvements, weatherization and repair projects, and assistance addressing hazardous housing conditions. Widows of veterans may also be eligible for certain programs.
Officials said veterans from communities across Presidio County — including Marfa, Presidio, Redford, Ruidosa, Candelaria, Casa Piedra, Shafter and areas in between — are encouraged to attend.
The Memorial Day gathering will also include a barbecue meal prepared by Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez.
The event highlights available housing and assistance programs for veterans, including the Housing for Texas Heroes Program and the Veterans General Assistance Program, aimed at helping veterans remain safely housed and access needed services.
