Marfa woman accused of assaulting officers after disturbance at Planet Marfa Bar

A Marfa woman is facing multiple felony charges after police say she assaulted officers responding to a disturbance early Saturday morning at Planet Marfa Bar.

According to a press release issued Sunday by the Marfa Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 1:11 a.m. on May 17 to the bar, located at 200 S. Abbott St., in reference to a woman allegedly assaulting individuals.

Police said an officer arriving at the scene observed a man attempting to restrain a woman. When the officer attempted to intervene, the woman allegedly kicked the officer and later bit the officer while continuing to resist attempts to be restrained.

Authorities said the officer, assisted by a pedestrian, was eventually able to restrain the woman, though she allegedly remained combative while officers attempted to place her in a patrol vehicle. A deputy with the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office later arrived to assist, according to the release.

Police said the woman was transported to the Marfa Police Department, where she allegedly assaulted a second officer. Marfa EMS responded to the scene, though the woman reportedly refused medical services.

The woman, identified by police as Sierra Slaughter, was later transported to the Presidio County Jail.

According to the release, Slaughter has been charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, a first-degree felony; assault of a public servant, a third-degree felony; and resisting arrest, search or transport, a Class A misdemeanor.

The charges remain allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
