Alpine Independent School District has launched a series of long-planned facility improvements, beginning with track and turf renovations at Buck Stadium and extending to multiple campuses across the district.
Work started this week at Buck Stadium, where crews will resurface the track and replace the 14-year-old artificial turf. District officials estimate the project will be completed by the end of July, ahead of the upcoming school year.
Additional deferred maintenance projects are scheduled to begin in the coming weeks. Those include a full flooring replacement at Alpine Elementary School, heating and air conditioning upgrades at Alpine Middle School, lighting improvements at Kokernot Field and refurbishments inside the Alpine High School gymnasium.
The district also announced that design work will begin this month on restoring Manuel Payne Field as the home venue for the Lady Bucks softball program. The project is being developed in collaboration with the City of Alpine.
District leaders said the improvements are funded through increased revenues generated over the past year, including grant funding, efforts to maximize state formula funding and favorable outcomes from the Comptroller’s Property Value Study.
Officials noted the projects come during a year in which the district also approved the largest staff compensation increases in its history while continuing to reduce the local property tax rate.
Construction is expected to continue through the summer months, with key athletic facilities scheduled to be ready for student-athletes and the community by late July.
