Organizers of the annual Smoke in the Mountains BBQ & Ribeye Shootout are seeking volunteer judges for the event, scheduled for June 5-6 in Fort Davis.
According to event organizers, no experience is necessary to participate in judging, which will take place at the fire house. Judges are asked to arrive 30 minutes before turn-in times for each category.
The annual competition will feature a variety of barbecue and food categories, giving volunteers the chance to sample entries from pitmasters competing in the event.
Judging begins Friday, June 5, with junior pitmaster entries at 6:30 p.m., followed by senior pitmaster at 7 p.m., ribeye at 7:30 p.m. and margarita judging at 8:30 p.m.
On Saturday, June 6, judging continues with salsa at 11 a.m., chicken at noon, ribs at 1 p.m., brisket at 2 p.m., cabrito at 3 p.m. and dessert at 4 p.m.
The event is billed as an opportunity for volunteers to taste barbecue at no cost while enjoying views of the Davis Mountains.
Smoke in the Mountains promotes the event with the slogan: “Great BBQ. Great Views. Great Time.”
