Marfa students launch podcast series through journalism and digital media class

Students in Ms. Adele Powers’ Journalism and Digital Media class at Marfa ISD recently launched their first professional podcast series in partnership with Marfa Public Radio, gaining hands-on experience in audio storytelling and media production.

The student-created podcasts explored topics connected to life in the community, including rural school experiences, high school sports culture, after-school jobs, growing up alongside longtime classmates and conversations about life in Marfa as students prepare for graduation.

According to information shared by the program, students learned how to produce, edit and publish audio stories using professional microphones, headphones and editing software. The project also focused on building communication, collaboration and technical skills while helping students gain confidence through storytelling and creative expression.

The initiative gave students an opportunity to share their perspectives and experiences with the broader community in a professional format.

The class also recognized Marfa Public Radio staff member Zoe K for her mentorship and support throughout the project.
