Fort Davis to host “Coolest 5K in Texas” Fourth of July run benefiting education foundation

Runners and walkers will gather in Fort Davis on July 3 for the annual “Coolest 5K in Texas,” a Fourth of July-themed event supporting the Fort Davis Education Foundation.

The event, set at Jeff Davis County Park along Highway 17 South, will feature both a 5K run and a 1K fun run/walk, offering options for participants of all ages and skill levels.

Race day begins with packet pickup and late registration from 7:15 to 7:45 a.m. The 1K fun run/walk starts at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K run at 8:30 a.m.

Organizers say participants can register online through Permian Basin Events or download an entry form through the Fort Davis Education Foundation website. Same-day registration will also be available.

Entry fees are set at $25 for early registration, which includes a guaranteed T-shirt size if completed by early June. Fees increase to $30 ahead of race day and $35 on the day of the event.

All proceeds from the race benefit the Fort Davis Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting local education initiatives.

Participants will receive T-shirts, and awards will be given to all 1K finishers. In the 5K, awards will go to the top three male and female finishers across multiple age divisions, as well as $100 prizes for the overall male and female winners.

The event will feature chip timing provided by Permian Basin Events.

Organizers say sponsorship opportunities remain available. For more information, participants can contact event coordinators via email or phone as listed on registration materials.
