A traffic stop south of Marathon on Saturday led to the arrest of a driver accused of smuggling eight people in the country illegally, according to the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies stopped a vehicle and identified the driver as Kenneth Earl Williamson of Texarkana, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. Authorities allege Williamson was transporting eight individuals — seven men and one woman — from Mexico and Venezuela.
Williamson was taken into custody and faces eight felony counts of smuggling of persons, officials said.
The eight individuals were referred to U.S. Border Patrol agents for processing and removal, according to the sheriff’s office.
No additional details about the stop or the conditions of those involved were immediately released.
