Sul Ross State University theatre students will showcase their work in the upcoming Directing II Finals, featuring scenes from two contemporary plays, on May 5 and 6 at the university’s Alpine campus.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. each evening in the Studio Theatre, located in Room 105 of the Fine Arts Building. Admission is free and open to the public.
The student-directed production includes selected scenes from “American Buffalo” by David Mamet and “Venus in Fur” by David Ives. All scenes are directed and designed by Sul Ross theatre students as part of their coursework.
Organizers said the event highlights the creative and technical skills of emerging directors, offering audiences a look at the process of staging and interpreting modern dramatic works.
The program has a runtime of approximately one hour. Attendees are advised that the performances contain mature themes, including depictions of violence and sexual situations.
The Studio Theatre is located on the Sul Ross Alpine campus near the Museum of the Big Bend.
