High school students in Marfa are offering a firsthand look at life in a small West Texas community through a special student-produced radio program set to air this week.
The project, created by the Marfa Independent School District journalism class, explores what it is like to attend school in a tight-knit environment, grow up in a tourism-driven town and navigate everyday experiences unique to the region. The program features student-reported stories addressing questions about community life, long-term friendships and local traditions.
Marfa Public Radio will host a live broadcast of the student work from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, during a listening event at the station. The program will be rebroadcast later that evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
The special is reported by Marfa ISD students and highlights their perspectives on growing up and going to school in one of West Texas’ most distinctive small towns.
