A free, five-day conservation retreat for West Texas college students is scheduled for July 29 through Aug. 2 at the Davis Mountains Preserve, with organizers limiting participation to 15 students.
The annual West Texas Students in Conservation Retreat, organized by the Borderlands Research Institute and The Nature Conservancy in Texas, will provide hands-on field experience and technical training led by 21 conservation professionals representing 15 organizations, agencies and universities.
Participants will receive meals and lodging at no cost during the program, which focuses on preparing undergraduate students for careers in conservation and natural resource management.
Applications, along with required letters of recommendation, are due by May 31, 2026. Eligible applicants must be currently enrolled undergraduate students at a Texas college or university.
Organizers say the retreat aims to connect students with working professionals while building practical skills used in conservation careers across the region.
More information and application details are available online through the program’s registration link.
