A U.S. Customs and Border Protection air crew rescued a 68-year-old woman suffering from heat stroke in Big Bend National Park on April 23, officials said.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations, the Alpine Air Unit deployed an AS350 helicopter in challenging wind conditions to reach the patient. The crew located a safe landing zone, extracted the woman and transported her to Big Bend Regional Medical Center for urgent care.
Officials said the patient was unconscious but responsive during the evacuation and was accompanied by a Border Patrol EMT during transport.
Air and Marine Operations said the mission highlights the unit’s readiness to respond quickly in remote and hazardous conditions, where access by ground can be limited and time is critical.
