Multiple teams from Fort Stockton Middle School earned top finishes at the GEAR Robotics Preliminary Contest held April 18 in Midland, with one team securing a second-place finish and advancing to the finals.
The team of Davian Joshlin, Jorge Leyva and Josiah Ramirez placed second with 145 points, qualifying for the finals scheduled for May 2 in Lubbock.
Another Fort Stockton team — Arabella Aaron, Fernanda Carrasco, Cora Gonzales and Liliana Granado — finished fourth with 130 points.
A third team consisting of Treydon Marquez, Raymundo Montanez and Xavier Velasquez placed 11th with 105 points. The same group also received an award for best “Martian,” a small Lego-built creature designed and constructed by Montanez.
School officials congratulated all participants and wished those advancing success in the next round of competition.
