Four agents join Big Bend Sector Horse Patrol after completing rider course

Four U.S. Border Patrol agents have joined the Big Bend Sector Horse Patrol following their graduation from the agency’s Basic Rider Course, officials announced.

The newly trained agents completed the course, which is designed to prepare personnel for mounted patrol operations across the rugged terrain of the Big Bend region. The training focuses on horsemanship, field mobility and the unique demands of patrolling remote areas on horseback.

Horse patrol units are a longstanding component of Border Patrol operations in the region, where mountainous landscapes and limited road access can make traditional vehicle patrols difficult. Mounted agents are often deployed to areas that are otherwise hard to reach, enhancing coverage and response capabilities.

Big Bend Sector officials congratulated the four agents on completing the program, describing the course as both challenging and rewarding.

The addition of the new riders strengthens the sector’s mounted patrol capacity as agents continue to monitor and secure the border across West Texas.
