“Dear Cancer” Exhibit to Close with Reception Friday at Museum of the Big Bend

The “Dear Cancer” art exhibit by Julian Vidales will conclude Friday with a public closing reception at the Museum of the Big Bend.

The reception is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. April 3 and marks the final opportunity for visitors to experience the exhibit, which has been on display as part of the Sul Ross State University Art Program.

“Dear Cancer” explores the personal and shared experiences of those affected by cancer, drawing from Vidales’ portrayal of his father’s journey while expanding to reflect the broader impact on families and communities. The collection uses metaphorical and surreal imagery to convey themes of resilience, loss, hope and enduring love.

The exhibit has served as a tribute to survivors and those currently battling cancer, offering a visual narrative of strength through adversity.

The Museum of the Big Bend, located on the Sul Ross State University campus in Alpine, will host the closing event, which is open to the public.
