Brush Fire Near Presidio Prompts Response; County Burn Ban Renewed

Deputies with the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office responded to a rapidly spreading brush fire along FM 170 about three miles west of Presidio, officials said.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies arrived quickly and helped remove a local resident’s vehicle that had become trapped in the fire.

The incident comes one day after another brush fire was reported at Palo Amarillo Ranch, located east of Presidio along FM 170.

County officials renewed a burn ban during a Presidio County Commissioners Court meeting Wednesday in Marfa. The order prohibits outdoor burning across the county due to dry conditions and the increased risk of wildfires.

The sheriff’s office warned residents that violating the burn ban may result in fines. Officials said the measure is intended to prevent fires from becoming uncontrollable and causing property damage during the dry season.

Joel Nuñez Jr., chief deputy and public information officer for the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office, issued the notice.
