The Big Bend Conservation Alliance has announced the addition of three new Neighborhood Captains who will support tree care efforts in Presidio through the organization’s Everything’s Connected initiative.
The new team members — Evangelina, Mitzy and Lorenzo — will serve as part-time staff focused on helping residents care for recently planted trees across the community. The program aims to improve long-term tree survival in Presidio’s desert environment while strengthening neighborhood connections.
According to the organization, Neighborhood Captains play a hands-on role by monitoring the health and growth of trees, assisting residents with watering and maintenance questions, and helping ensure plantings receive the care they need to thrive in the region’s challenging climate.
Program leaders say the effort goes beyond landscaping, emphasizing community stewardship and shared responsibility. By maintaining regular contact with participating households, captains help turn tree-planting projects into ongoing partnerships between residents and conservation advocates.
The Everything’s Connected project is part of broader regional efforts to support environmental resilience, shade access and community well-being in Far West Texas.
