Presidio High School Welders Advance to State Competition After El Paso Event

Students from Presidio Independent School District earned spots in the state welding competition after competing this weekend in the Texas High School Welding Series in El Paso.

According to the district, Presidio High School welding students participated in the event at the Sun City Welding Academy in El Paso, where all competitors from the school qualified as individuals for the next round.

The students will advance to the state competition in Abilene.

Those qualifying included Randy C., Alfonso M., Eduardo N., Victor M., Javier L., Douglas D., Omar R., Visue C. and Abraham D., according to information released by the district.

Additional recognition was awarded to Alfonso M., who was selected among 75 welders for demonstrating strong work ethic and leadership.

In a social media post, Presidio ISD praised the students’ skill, dedication and teamwork, saying they represented the school “with excellence.”

The district also recognized welding instructor Jesus Zubia for his guidance and support in helping students succeed in and out of the classroom.

School officials said the program continues to prepare students for careers in skilled trades while providing opportunities for regional and statewide competition.
