Sheriff reports migrant apprehension southwest of Sanderson

Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland reported the apprehension of a group of migrants southwest of Sanderson in a social media post shared Tuesday.

According to the sheriff, Sanderson-area Border Patrol agents working with CBP Air and Marine, the Terrell County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety took the group into custody during a coordinated operation in remote terrain southwest of town.

Cleveland said the individuals claimed they were traveling to Midland, Texas. In his post, he added that illegal border crossings generally involve organized criminal networks rather than isolated incidents.

Authorities did not release the number of people apprehended, their identities, or additional details about possible charges or processing. As is standard in these cases, federal agencies are responsible for custody and next steps.

Sanderson, located along U.S. Highway 90 in Terrell County, sits within a region where local, state, and federal agencies regularly conduct joint enforcement operations due to its proximity to major West Texas transit routes.
