Texas Historical Commission to Host Museum Innovation Workshop in Alpine

The Texas Historical Commission will host a full-day visitor experience workshop in Alpine later this month aimed at helping museums and community partners create more engaging and authentic heritage programming.

The “SPARK! Places of Innovation” Visitor Experience Workshop will take place Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Museum of the Big Bend Cultural Events Center. The workshop is part of the Commission’s Museum on Main Street initiative.

According to organizers, the session is designed to explore how local and regional partners can collaborate to develop meaningful heritage experiences that connect people to place. The workshop will focus on practical tools and strategies museums can use to strengthen community engagement and visitor participation.

The event is intended for local and regional partners who are currently participating in — or considering participation in — Museum on Main Street programming.

Participants will receive guidance on engaging local audiences, designing community events, and creating a clear plan for implementing Museum on Main Street initiatives. The workshop will also provide opportunities for networking and collaboration with partners from across the region.

The workshop is free to attend, but advance registration is required, and seating is limited. Lunch will be provided for all registered attendees.

Museum on Main Street is a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and state humanities councils, delivered in Texas through the Texas Historical Commission, to bring high-quality traveling exhibitions and educational programming to small communities.

More information and registration details are available through the Texas Historical Commission.
