An armed group abducted members of the security detail assigned to Ojinaga Mayor Lucy Marrufo while she was traveling to Aldama for a security meeting, according to reporting by El Heraldo de Chihuahua, citing the Chihuahua State Attorney General’s Office.
The abductions occurred along the highway connecting Ojinaga and Aldama as the mayor was en route to a meeting with security officials from multiple agencies. At least four municipal security personnel assigned to the mayor were intercepted and deprived of their liberty, authorities confirmed.
According to the report, the armed assailants removed the agents from the scene without speaking. Authorities were immediately notified and launched efforts to locate the missing personnel. The identities of the abducted agents and the motive for the attack have not been disclosed.
Officials said the agents were outnumbered and outgunned, preventing them from resisting. The Aldama–Ojinaga corridor has experienced increased insecurity over the past year amid ongoing disputes between criminal groups operating in the region, El Heraldo de Chihuahua reported.
The State Attorney General’s Office said search and investigation efforts remain ongoing to locate the agents and identify those responsible.
