The Fort Davis National Historic Site will bring history to life the weekend of September 6–7, 2025, with a special program on the U.S. Army Camel Experiment.
Doug Baum and the Texas Camel Corps will share the story of how camels were used by the U.S. Army in the 1850s to traverse the rugged terrain of West Texas. Visitors can meet the camels, hear first-hand accounts, and learn how this unique experiment shaped the history of the region.
