In a cross-border show of care and solidarity, the Presidio County Democratic Party recently delivered nearly-new mattresses and bed frames to Casa Hogar, a shelter in Ojinaga that provides refuge for children and migrants.
The donation replaced worn bedding and helped bring comfort to the young residents of the shelter. Presidio County Commissioner David Beebe transported the items across the border, and Commissioner Deirdre Hisler helped source and coordinate the donation.
The staff at Casa Hogar—entirely volunteer-run—were deeply thanked for their ongoing efforts to care for children in need.
“What touched us most was how eager everyone was to welcome us and receive the donation—smiling, laughing, and full of joy,” Presidio Democrats shared. “This simple act stands against the backdrop of an increasingly punitive immigration climate.”
The group emphasized that compassion and dignity must remain at the heart of policy and community action. “Every child deserves safety, care, and hope wherever they are—and we’ll keep doing our part,” they wrote.
