As online shopping surges during Amazon Prime Days, the Alpine Police Department is reminding residents to take steps to prevent package theft.
Through its ongoing community program, Operation Front Porch, the department offers residents a secure location to have their packages delivered. Items can be shipped directly to the police station at 309 W. Sul Ross Ave., Alpine, TX 79830, where they will be held for pickup 24/7, year-round.
“Don’t let porch pirates cash in on your cart,” the department stated in a public advisory. “We want you to continue to make the Alpine Police Department your front porch.”
To retrieve a package, recipients must present a government-issued photo ID and proof of shipment. Parents or guardians picking up items addressed to minors must also provide proof of guardianship and/or the child’s identification.
There is no charge for the service, which is part of the department’s broader community safety efforts.
