Aerial Surveillance Leads to Seizure of Weapons and Tactical Gear in Coyame

A helicopter operated by the Chihuahua State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE) led to the seizure of a vehicle containing high-powered firearms and tactical equipment on Monday, according to a report from Ojinaga Noticias.

The helicopter had been deployed over the weekend in Ojinaga as part of an expanded interagency security operation. During a surveillance flight, authorities observed vehicles making evasive maneuvers. Ground personnel from the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) were dispatched, and around 2:30 p.m., an abandoned 2014 GMC truck with a stolen vehicle report was located.

Inside, authorities found:

  • Two .50 caliber firearms
  • 19 loaded magazines
  • Over 2,500 rounds of ammunition, including:
    • 789 rounds of .50 caliber
    • 910 rounds of 7.62×39
    • 444 rounds of 5.56×45
    • 435 rounds of .308 caliber
  • Eight ballistic vests commonly used by organized crime groups

The operation is part of a broader strategy to reassert control over regions affected by criminal activity and ensure public safety in the border zone. No arrests have been reported so far, but the security operation remains active.
