The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Specialist III (Operations Ranger) position at Big Bend Ranch State Park near Terlingua. The role pays $3,720.64 per month and includes a variety of hands-on duties related to park maintenance and visitor services.
Based out of the Barton Warnock Visitor Center at 21800 FM 170, this position requires a wide range of skills in facilities, equipment, and grounds maintenance, including plumbing, carpentry, trail work, erosion control, janitorial services, and operation of mowers, tractors, and hand tools. The position also involves interacting with the public and supporting day-to-day park operations.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, three years of relevant maintenance experience, and a valid driver’s license. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in customer service, office work, or trail crews with agencies like the National Park Service or AmeriCorps.
The job is located in a remote, rugged area of the Chihuahuan Desert with limited cell service and extreme summer temperatures. Applicants are encouraged to visit or research the region before applying. However, the position offers access to some of Texas’s most biodiverse and scenic landscapes.
