As reported by The Big Bend Sentinel, publisher Smokey Briggs argues the footage should be public under Texas’s updated open records law, which aimed to close the “dead suspect loophole.” Instead, the Texas Attorney General blocked release by citing a child abuse exemption — a move Briggs says undermines transparency and press rights.
